Vladimir Belogolovsky’s Harry Seidler: The Exhibition leaves no stone unturned in documenting his ongoing, four years in the making to date, world tour exhibition, Harry Seidler: Painting Toward Architecture. It examines the blurry boundaries between art and architecture and how these disciplines inspire one another by bringing to focus the work of Vienna-born Australian modernist Harry Seidler and his creative collaborations with a dozen of world-renowned architects and artists. Curator of 20 Seidler exhibitions and author of Harry Seidler: Lifework (Rizzoli, 2014), Belogolovsky provides detailed insights into the project from beginning to end: pitching initial exhibition idea to the client, developing its concept, arranging the tour, preparing the content, designing individual exhibitions, managing installations, presenting the lecture, initiating new collaborations and projects. The book’s focus on a single touring exhibition is unprecedented; it explores what typical exhibition catalogues miss entirely – spatial engagement with the content by the public. In its attempt to present various aspects of a single exhibition the book raises fundamental curatorial issues beyond the project in question.

Contributors Biographies

Vladimir Belogolovsky (born 1970, Odessa, Ukraine) is the founder of the New York-based Intercontinental Curatorial Project, which focuses on organizing, curating, and designing architectural exhibitions worldwide. He graduated from The Cooper Union School of Architecture in 1996. Belogolovsky is the American correspondent for Berlin-based architectural journal SPEECH and is a corresponding member of the International Academy of Architecture in Moscow (IAAM). His books include Conversations with Architects in the Age of Celebrity (DOM, 2015); Harry Seidler: Lifework (Rizzoli, 2014), Felix Novikov (TATLIN, 2009; DOM, 2013), Soviet Modernism: 1955-1985 (TATLIN, 2010), and Green House (TATLIN, 2009). In addition to Harry Seidler: Painting Toward Architecture (world tour since 2012) he has curated: City of Ideas at the University of Sydney (2016); Anthony Ames: Object-Type Landscapes at Casa Curutchet in La Plata, Buenos Aires (2015); Colombia: Transformed (American tour, 2012-15); a retrospective of architect Ángel Fernández Alba at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Madrid (2009); Green House at the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow (2009); and Chess Game at Russian Pavilion (Foreign Section) at the 11th Venice Architecture Biennale (2008). He has lectured at Columbia University, University of Virginia, Hong Kong University, Moscow Architectural Institute, the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Tongji University in Shanghai, and other universities and museums in more than 20 countries.
