  • In a time characterized by fast-paced work, a 24-hour-a-day lifestyle, and immense pressure, the concept of the house as a place of repose becomes ever more pressing and relevant. The Lake W project offers an exclusive opportunity to design a first-class facility that addresses the notion of comfort, style, and leisure for the 21st century. Situ- ated in the Wu Kai Sha area of greater Hong Kong, Lake W is embodied by the notion of the “jewel” – ten unique floating glass pavilions and water courtyards which elevate the facility beyond the typical commercial and resort development. The Lake W project is presented here in its entirety – from design genesis to final presentation. The interac- tive design process took place on three continents, and is here represented through concept sketches, parti diagrams, and images of the digital design model. The multi- disciplinary team including ORO Studio, Office dA, and Methanoia Studio, was rooted in collaboration and a layered evolution of design ideas which can be discovered in this volume. A full presentation of the project, including presentation drawings and 90 full color plates are included, as well as written contributions from Daryl Ng and Rodolphe el-Khoury. This volume is the perfect companion to the Lake W project, currently under construction and expected to be complete in two years.

  • Office dA is a Boston-based architecture and design firm led since 1991 by principal partners Monica Ponce de Leon and Nader Tehrani. The firm’s work ranges in scale from furniture to urban design and infrastructure, with a focus on architecture. Office dA seizes on the challenges unique to each project—the peculiarities of a site, require- ments of program, and the specifics of a target audience—as the catalysts for transfor- mation in architecture. An investigation of the potentials of materials and construction techniques, often imported from fields outside of architecture, is the foundation for every design. Office dA explores unique material qualities in conjunction with both tra- ditional and digital techniques of design and assembly, and resolves every project to a high level of detail. Office dA’s simultaneous rigor and sensitivity have allowed the firm to develop a portfolio of projects around the world—from Boston to Caracas to Beijing— which uniquely marry local craft and tradition to global and contemporary techniques.

Methanoia Studio offers image branding, animated video commercials, and real-es- tate solutions. Methanoia built its reputation in image branding with the design of com- pany logos and icons, event spaces, booths, and exhibitions for corporate events and museums. In 2002, Methanoia was awarded Best in Design by the Museo Itinerante for its work with the Diego Armando Maradona display, featured in museums across the world. By 2004, Methanoia’s work in animated video and commercials could be seen on televisions across the world and included many productions for the National Geographic Channel.
Methanoia is also involved with devising real-estate solutions for global luxury hotel and residential projects. After gaining recognition for its involve- ment in Buenos Aires’s Art District, Methanoia followed up with facilitating Miami’s St. Regis and Biscayne Landing, Puerto Vallarta’s Icon Vallarta, and a number of hotel and residential projects across Europe and Asia. The company will soon unveil its design of a state-of-the-art clubhouse for Eterna ́s residences in Hong Kong, due 2008. • Methanoia strives to create an exciting visual communication entity for each project it is challenged with. By developing a range of products and services, the dynamic team at Methanoia—composed of art directors, architects, 3-D specialists, filmmakers, photographers, and interactive designers—continually seeks to ensure excellence and a unique vision for each project.
